🏛️ Orvieto Day Trip
Hilltop loop starting & ending at Piazza Cahen (top of the funicular)
🚡 Funicular

🚡 Funicular: €1.30 one way, includes connecting bus. Runs every 10-15 min, ~4 min ride up to Piazza Cahen. Don’t drive into the ZTL center.
1. Piazza Cahen
START
Arrive via funicular. Grab your St. Patrick’s Well ticket here before heading into town — the well (€5) is 248 steps down/up a double-helix staircase. Right next door: Albornoz Fortress, free ramparts with sweeping valley views.
Free / €5 well
2. Corso Cavour
Walk the main pedestrian street toward the Duomo — flat, easy, lined with cafés. About 12 minutes at a relaxed pace. Skip the bus, the walk is part of the charm.
🚶 12 min walk
3. Piazza del Duomo
MAIN STOP
The heart of Orvieto. See the striped basalt/travertine interior and gilded mosaic facade of the Duomo, plus the Cappella di San Brizio (Signorelli frescoes). Around the piazza: Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, Claudio Faina Archaeological Museum, and the Orvieto Underground tour (Etruscan tunnels + dovecotes).
🎟️ ~€12 underground
⏱️ 90-120 min
4. Torre del Moro
Short detour off Corso Cavour. 250 steps up a 13th-century clock tower for the best panoramic view in town — terraced rooftops one way, Piazza Cahen the other.
€2.80
5. Medieval Quarter
Wander the side streets north of Corso Cavour toward Piazza della Repubblica — Via della Cava, Porta Maggiore, quiet cobbled lanes, local trattorie. Good spot for lunch and ceramics shopping.
Free wandering
6. Loop Back
END
Walk the city walls for valley views on the way back, or hop the Line A minibus which loops Piazza Cahen → Piazza della Repubblica → Piazza Duomo → Via Roma → back to Piazza Cahen (included in funicular ticket).
🚌 Free w/ ticket
⏳ Extra time? Etruscan Necropolis of Crocifisso del Tufo — just below the city walls, ~4 min bus + 9 min walk from Piazza Cahen.
